WhatsApp has rolled out an update to its native app on Windows, refreshing its design in some ways but also removing the app from your phone.
In the new version, messages will now continue to be received even if the app isn’t open and your phone is off, a big step that lets you stop worrying about your phone’s battery in the back of your mind.
Behind the scenes, the app is now Windows instead of a web app, making it more responsive than ever, if that was an issue for you before.
The app looks a bit cleaner than the older version, too, with some subtler use of color – for example, the top of the app is no longer bright green, instead blending in with the rest of the display.
The new version of the app is available for download from the Microsoft Store here , although you may find, like us, that you’re still on the old version after reinstalling.
This will undoubtedly be updated soon, as WhatsApp rolls out this change to its desktop users. You can also check the WhatsApp FAQ section for some more details on how the new version works.
